چکیده

1. Minced muscle and liver of normal rats produce glycogen from glucose-l-phosphate in vitro. 2. If, after a starvation period, the glycogen content falls below 200 mg./100 g., minced liver and muscle do not produce glycogen from glucose-lphosphate. However, if glycogen is added as well, additional glycogen is produced, just as with pure enzyme solutions. 3. In adrenalectomized, adynamic rats the glycogen content is decreased in liver and muscle, and only if glycogen is added can production ofnew glycogen by minced muscle and liver be observed to occur at the same rate as with normal animals. Thus adrenalectomy does not affect the mechanism responsible for the synthesis of glycogen from glucose-i-phosphate.

Mechanism of Action of the Thyroid Hormone on the Heart

SUMMARY  The foliowing cardiac effects may be attributed to thyroxin:  1-Thyroxin augments all anaerobic processes in the body includ::ng the heart, and decreases the glycogen content of the heart ( 1, 2, 5, 27). The resistance of the heart to anoxia is increased in hyperthyroidism ( 25). 2- Thyroxin influences the cardiac weight and prevents cardiac atrophy (3, 8, 10, 11, 19, 20, 21, 30...

Xcv. Role of Glutathione in Anaerobic Tissue Glycolysis

THE relative amounts of lactic acid produced anaerobically by animal tissues from glycogen and from glucose depend on the tissue. Skeletal muscles, while able to form a large quantity of lactic acid from glycogen, produce only a relatively small amount of lactic acid from glucose. On the other hand involuntary muscles, brain tissue, heart muscle and lungs produce far more lactic acid from gluco...

Protein breakdown in muscle from burned rats is blocked by insulin-like growth factor i and glycogen synthase kinase-3beta inhibitors.

We reported previously that IGF-I inhibits burn-induced muscle proteolysis. Recent studies suggest that activation of the phosphotidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt signaling pathway with downstream phosphorylation of Forkhead box O transcription factors is an important mechanism of IGF-I-induced anabolic effects in skeletal muscle. The potential roles of other mechanisms in the anabolic effects ...

Effects of Siraitia grosvenorii Fruits Extracts on Physical Fatigue in Mice

In this study, the effects of Siraitia grosvenorii fruits extracts (SGFE) on physical fatigue were investigated. One hundred and forty-four mice were randomly divided into four groups: control group, low-dose SGE-treated group, middle-dose SGE-treated group and high-dose SGFE-treated group. The animals of control group received an oral administration of physiological saline in a volume of 2.5 m...
